Basic RulesThe event is open to Antweight (150g), Beetleweight (1.36kg) and Featherweight (13.6kg) robots. These robots then fight it out in a purpose built arena where the designs and drivers are tested as each robot attempts to destroy, control or pin the other robot within the 3min time limit. The last robot left standing wins! If both robots are still capable of driving at the end of the round, then the decision is passed to a panel of judges which asses the damage, control of the fight and tactics of each of the robots to determine a winner.

WeaponryThe robots can use many types of weaponry to disable the opponent some of the favourites are high energy spinning disks, flippers which throw the opponent into the air and high power drive trains to ram the opponent into submission. While builders are free to come up with new and more destructive weapons there are some restrictions on what weapons can be used. Weapons which pose too high a safety risk (explosives, guns), damage the arena excessively, are difficult to clean up (liquids, napalm) or are boring to watch (EMP, Radio Jamming) are disallowed. Flame throwers and internal combustion engines are allowed at some events but will not be allowed at this years nationals, due to the location.
FinalsTo progress to the finals the robots must earn points in the round robin qualifying rounds. Each robot is awarded 2 points for a win, 1.5 for a draw or bye and 1 for a loss. Robots unable to compete in that round due to damage earn 0 points. After 5 qualifying rounds the top 8 robots are selected and then fight it out in a single elimination tournament to determine the final winner.
Other informationThis years competition will also have weight bonuses of 200% for walking robots, autonomous robots or novel shuffler robots. Please contact event organiser if you intend to enter one of these robots.
